Biography:
Claudia J. Arenas [Claudia Rosenshield] completed her Master of Fine Arts in Acting at Yale University. She also has a Master of Arts in Theatre from the University at Albany and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish from Tufts University. In Taipei, she taught an acting seminar – exploring script and character analysis, monologue presentation, scene work, and auditioning strategies – to senior acting students of the Taiwan National University of the Arts. In Kuwait, she was an Associate Professor of Theater and Art History at the Gulf University for Science and Technology; the survey course in theater covered the interplay between historical changes and theater, as well as introducing the various components of the art form such as: lighting, sound, costume and set design; directing; theater architecture; playwriting and acting. At the University of the District of Columbia, she served as Visiting Professor of Theater where she taught Acting II, Acting III, Directing I, and Modern and Contemporary Drama. She was an Adjunct Professor of Theater at the American University in Cairo, Egypt where she taught Acting I, Acting II, and the Art of Theater. While she relishes teaching most of all, she has worked professionally as a performer. Highlights include performing at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard, Yale Repertory Theater, Williamstown Theater Festival (Act One) and Off-Broadway in New York City at The Directors Company, Intar, Samuel Beckett Theatre, and Here Theatre. She has also enjoyed performing in commercials, soap operas (such as Guiding Light, for CBS, and One Life to Live, for ABC), and several independent films made in Boston. Aside from her work in theater, she completed her Yoga Teaching Certification at TriYoga in London, England, and enjoyed teaching yoga very much. She is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French. One of her favorite summer jobs was being a springboard diving coach to kids aged eight to eighteen. But her all-time favorite job was being a mom to her two amazing kids. Claudia is thrilled to join the team at Catholic University and to be part of the exciting theater community here in the DMV as both an AEA actor and a professor.
