  • Biography:

Mark Chalfant is an improv performer, teacher, coach, and director. After helping to re-energize and rebuild Washington Improv Theater (WIT) as an all-volunteer, ensemble-led collective, Mark stepped in to become the company’s first full-time staff member in 2004. Since then, he has led WIT to realize tremendous growth across its performance, education, and corporate training programs. Mark has directed and coached dozens of WIT ensemble projects and has taught thousands of students as an instructor in WIT’s classes program. He feels extremely fortunate to work with a team of wonderful people promoting an art form and ideas he’s passionate about.

Mark has studied improv nationwide (iO, Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, Bay Area Theatresports) and has pursued theater training throughout DC (Studio Theatre, Woolly Mammoth, Shakespeare Theatre Company, and Theatre Lab). Mark has received multiple Artist Fellowship grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and won Honorable Mention for the 2021 EXCEL Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership. Mark is also a member of Leadership Greater Washington’s Class of 2017.
