The Master of Arts in Theatre Education -- MATE -- degree program is one of five graduate theatre programs offered by the Department of Drama. The MATE degree program is the only one of its kind in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Designed to specifically accommodate the schedules of working professionals, all classes are offered in the evenings year round.

Most courses can be completed ONLINE. Students meet with the instructor and classmates via video conferencing and submit all assignments electronically.

Courses that require in-person meetings are scheduled in SUMMER sessions.

NEW lower tuition!

MATE courses are now eligible for the University's Professional Programs Rate.

The MATE program accepts applications year round. It is possible to start in the Fall, Spring, or Summer. If you have applied or plan to apply, please contact the Head of the Program, Rosalind Flynn (FLYNN@cua.edu).

  • Summers Program

Any courses that require in-person meetings are scheduled in summer sessions. Students nationwide or worldwide can complete the MATE degree Theatre Educator track by taking online classes during the academic year and coming to campus two summers in a row during the second six-week summer session.
