Required Application Documents for Master's Programs

  • A completed Catholic University online application (No fee is required.)
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (Unofficial transcripts can be used for the application review.)
  • English proficiency test scores-international students only. Unofficial scores can be used for application review.

Official transcripts and English proficiency scores must be submitted for full admittance to the University.  Your official copies should be sent from the institution to em-operations@cua.edu

For international students, a credential evaluation of your coursework will be provided free of charge by the University.

In Addition

Actors will be asked to present 2 two-minute monologues: one classical, one modern, one comic, one serious.

Directors will be sent instructions for preparing a brief directing exercise to present at the interview, working with students in the department.

Playwrights are required to submit a writing sample when applying online. Additional samples may be required by the Department. Send what you believe to be your best work.

Theatre History and Criticism applicants are required to send in one writing sample: either a critical essay or research paper.

Theater Education applicants are NOT required to send an additional writing sample. What is required: transcripts, statement of purpose, your resume, GRE score, and three letters of recommendation.

Submitting Test Scores

GRE or other test scores must be sent directly to the Catholic University Office of Graduate Admission from the testing service. Do not attach to the online application.

International Applicants

Attach to your application also original copies in the native language and translated forms of the following:

  • Certificates
  • Transcripts

English Proficiency, Proof of Funding
Both English proficiency and proof of funding documents must be presented to the Office of Graduate Admission either by postal mail or in person. These documents will not be accepted through the online application.
