Gail Stewart Beach: BA, Franklin and Marshall College; MFA in Design, University of Hawaii. As free-lance costume designer in the Baltimore-Washington area specializing in dance, she worked with over 25 companies until she join the Drama Department in 1987. They included, Maryland, Washington, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and New Orleans Ballet Companies, Dance Kaleidoscope, Ballet West – Phoenix, and with companies at Chautauqua Institute, The Peabody Conservatory of Music, Goucher College, UMBC, Towson University, and The University of marland, College Park. She has continued designing in the area as costume designer for the Doug Hamby Dancers and the Phoenix Dance Company, as well as other modern dance companies, and the UMBC Artists-in-Residence program. Her theatre work has included designs at the Olney Theatre & National Players, the Folger Shakespeare Theatre, the Library of Congress, Catalyst, The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, Rep Stage, The Welders, Longacre Lea, where she was resident designer for almost 20 years, and Everyman Theatre in Baltimore, where she designed 8 shows over several seasons. She is a member of United Scenic Artists local 829.
